Belarus Winner Defends Trans Rights

   Tupilak and the Belarus LGBT Journalist Group announce the winner of their 2015 contest for best journalist work combating discrimination and intolerance in the mass media of Belarus is Ulad Shviadovich of the publication, Nasha Niva -- for defending a trans person defamed by a regional newspaper in the city of Mahilou.

     "We salute Ulad for his courage in confronting hate speech, discrimination and ignorance of LGBT rights in the media in this Eastern European country," says Bill Schiller, chairman of Tupilak (Nordic rainbow cultural workers).  "It takes extra strength to defy the rampant homophobia displayed by both media, politicians and neo-nazi hooligans in Belarus today."


      Earlier winners have been honored for their work in newspapers and internet publications combating discrimination and homophobia in the Belarus media since the year of 2012.
